Karns GOP Christmas Party


Tickets are now available for our annual Christmas Party on Dec. 2 at Ramsey's. The social will start at 5:30 PM with dinner served at 6:00 PM. Our traditional cake auction will also take place. So come prepared to bid on your favorite cake. More details about the event will follow soon.

October Meeting: Senator Tim Burchett


We are honored to host State Senator Tim Burchett for a our October (Tuesday the 7th) meeting. As usual, we will meet at 7:00 PM in the library of Karns Middle School. More information to follow soon.

Sen. Burchett serves the 7th district and has recently announced his candidacy for the 2010 Knox County Mayoral race. He has a long history of public service starting as a House member of the 99th (1994) Tennessee General Assembly and continuing in the 101st (1998) General Assembly as a Senator.

We plan to wrap the meeting up promptly at 8:00 PM to give plenty of time to watch the 9:00 PM Presidential Debate.

September Meeting: Bill Dunn


For our September meeting (7:00 PM, Tuesday, September 2, Karns Middle School Library), we are honored to have Tennessee State Representative Bill Dunn to speak. Bill serves the 16th district and is running for re-election on November 4th.


He has been a strong voice for our district:

Defeated the income tax.

Co-sponsored the Educational Accountability Act.

Strengthened Tennessee's ethics laws.

Authored and passed the marriage amendment that defines marriage in the Tennessee Constitution as between one man and one woman.

Opened Knox County government with the Technological Sunshine Law.

Co-sponsored Senate Joint Resolution 127, the proposed pro-life amendment to the Constitution.

We looked forward to hosting Bill and to hear more about these and other accomplishments.

August Meeting: Candidate Forum

For our August meeting (7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 5, Karns Middle School Library), we are inviting local Republican candidates to speak in a forum platform. This meeting will be a great opportunity to meet the candidates prior to the August 7 election day.

The meeting will consist of candidates for both county-wide races and specific to the Karns district. For the district candidates, the main offices of interest and the Republican candidates are as follows:

County Commission, District 6, Seat: Brad Anders

School Board, District 3: Cindy Buttry

For the county-wide offices, the Republican candidates are as follows:

County Clerk: Foster Arnett, Jr.

Property Assessor: Phil Ballard

This election is an important one for our county and we are excited to have a strong ticket with proven leadership.

Karns Community Fair

We are excited to have a booth and to participate again this year in the Karns Community Fair. The fair is this Saturday (July 26) at the Karns High School. Look for our booth in gymnasium. We look forward to seeing you there.

Current Commission Phil Ballard will be our speaker for Tuesday, June 3, at 7:00 PM. Phil is the GOP candidate for Knox County Property Assessor. We are excited to have him speak.

Brad Anders: BBQ Fundraiser

Brad Anders will be having a BBQ fundraiser at Powell Auction on Saturday, June 7, 5:00 to 8:00 PM (rain or shine). Brad is the GOP candidate for County Commission Sixth (includes Karns) Seat A. The address for Powell Auction is 6729 Pleasant Ridge Road.

May Speaker: Brad Anders

Our speaker for the May club meeting (Tuesday, May 6, at 7:00 PM) will be Brad Anders. Brad was elected in the January primary to represent the GOP for the sixth district commission race.

Brad is a 34-year-old sergeant in the Knoxville Police Department and has never held political office before.

In a recent News Sentinel interview, he has said he wants to make sure schools are represented equally. He also wants to work to recruit business to his area of the county. And he said he would work with the Knoxville Area Chamber Partnership to attract more jobs to his district.

Brad holds a bachelor's degree in organizational management from Tusculum College and is trained as a crisis negotiator. Brad, who has been married for eight years to his wife, Jennifer, is a deacon at Grace Baptist Church.

Brad Anders Fundraiser

Brad Anders, the GOP candidate for the sixth district commission seat, is hosting a fundraiser at Powell Auction on June 7 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. The cost is $15. Please come out and support our GOP candidate.

Lincoln Day Dinner


The annual Knox County Lincoln Day dinner is this Friday, April 4, at Rothchild's. The cost is $30 per person and is payable at the door.

GOP Fundraiser

A fundraiser for the Knox County GOP is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, in Fountain City from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Updated By-Laws

During our April meeting, we approved the first reading of the new By-Laws.



The three main changes are:
  • Update election of officers from May to December.
  • Remove secret ballot requirement for election of officers.
  • Update allowable terms for president to be two consecutive terms.
With a vote at our May meeting, these modifications to the By-Laws will be effective.

New Newsletter

The first issue of our new newsletter is available. Each month, we hope to publish a newsletter, which will have four general articles of interest.



The first and main article will give a background on our speaker for that month and provide insight to the topic they are speaking about. The second article will provide a topic of specific interest to our Club such as news, announcements, and other notes. The third article will consist of something lighthearted or fun to serve as a interesting point of discussion. Finally, the third article will always provide information about the Club and when we meet.

The front page sidebar will announce important events and news items along with an upcoming speaker list. The back page sidebar will provide contact information for the Club.

Candidate Meet-n-Greet

The Karns Republican Club is hosting a "Meet-n-Greet" for Knox County candidates running in the upcoming primary elections. The scheduled date is Saturday, January 19, at the Karns Community Center from 2:00-5:00 PM. Everyone is invited to attend to visit campaign booths and speak one-on-one with candidates.

The first meeting of the new year (2008) is set for January 8th. The speakers will be John Owings and Bill Lockett, who are the Republican candidates for Knox County Law Director.
